Visit of Asylum Seekers and Refugees to Rathlin

Thursday 19/05/22

On Sunday 15th May, a group of asylum seekers and refugees visited Rathlin from Belfast, hosted by the Participation and Practice of Rights organisation.

The group has since contacted us to thank everyone involved with making the day so special for all the participants: “We are all still completely raving about Rathlin. I just wanted to send an email to say how absolutely blown away we all were by the generosity and kindness we experienced from everyone we met on our trip to Rathlin.”

The group’s day on the island included a picnic lunch on the seafront, with lots of games and beach activities for the kids, as well as a visit to the Seabird Centre. The group’s blog on the day trip included the memorable line that: “This, it turns out, is what a #KindEconomy looks like: nothing heroic, just ordinary people taking the time to look at their own daily routine, tasks and activities from someone else’s viewpoint.”
