Diamond

Date Lost: 13/04/1918

On 13th April 1918, the Coaster, Diamond, was bound for Derry/ Londonderry with a cargo of steel plates when she collided with Lily, a passenger ship bound for Glasgow.  Due to wartime regulations, both vessels were travelling without lights.  The Diamond sank almost immediately with a loss of three crew members.  The rest of the crew were rescued by the Lily.

Diving information – The wreck of the Diamond has been plotted on an echo sounder but so far she has not been dived on. She is lying in approximately 35 metres of water. The tidal current is quite strong in the area as she is lying in the main run of the tide but there is a good slack on the turn of the tide.
