The Glentow was wrecked on the west side of Fair Head. She was on her way to Ballycastle with a full cargo of coal. She was steaming quite close inshore when she was caught by the strong flood tide and forced closer inshore where she ran onto an underwater reef and stuck fast. Frantic attempts were made over the next few days to free the Glentow but to no avail. Within a short time she broke her back and all salvage attempts had to be abandoned.
Diving information – The wreck lies quite close inshore. Quite a lot of metal is lying up on the rocks and the wreck is opposite this. She is very broken up in about 5 metres. Portholes can be picked up anywhere on the site as well as other odds and ends. still an interesting dive, a close watch needs to be kept on the tides as the flood tide runs close inshore at this particular spot.
