Curlew

Date Lost: 28/10/1846

Curlew, which belonged to Sunderland, was wrecked on the 28th October 1846 on the south side of Church Bay while on passage from Archangel to Gloucester with a cargo of timber. It is not known what size she was, but going by the size of the nameplate, which was in the possession of the McCuaig family, I would say that she was probably a schooner. The crew was saved with some difficulty. Most of the cargo was also saved along with some of the ship’s fittings.
